VOCAL & CHORAL COMPETITION

The Vocal and Choral sections of the Toowoomba Eisteddfod offer singers, both children and adults, the opportunity to compete in a choir, a small group or as a soloist. It gives the participants a greater focus for their practice, in turn improving their skills in their chosen field.

Please read the General Rules and Division-Specific Rules carefully to avoid disqualification.                                                                                                                     Refer to the Schedule for the specific rules for each Section.

OWN CHOICE MUSIC MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE DEADLINE:


OWN CHOICE MUSIC DEADLINE WILL APPEAR ON THE TOOWOOMBA EISTEDDFOD HOME PAGE
No electronic submission of own choice music is accepted.
Please Note:
Competitors must submit a hard printed copy

OPTIONS FOR SUBMISSION:
• Post to City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod
    PO Box 60 Toowoomba Qld 4350
• Place in the locked box at the Empire Theatre Box Office (during normal business hours)
• Place in the locked box at McKenzie Music Etcetera
   37 Raff St, Toowoomba (during normal business hours)

SECTION CATEGORIES

a. Own choice of music and one song only unless otherwise indicated
b. Recorded accompaniments are not permitted.
c. Singers may only compete in one group per Section.
d. All Secondary Choral Sections may consist of students from Years 7 to 12 (inclusive).
e. Choralography is not permitted unless otherwise indicated in the section rules. Choralography in the Toowoomba Eisteddfod will be limited to combining expressive body movement with choral singing. Only the choral singing will be adjudicated.
f. Body Percussion may be performed as an accompaniment to the choral performance where indicated by the composer/ arranger in the score, except in sections where no body movement is permitted.

ii. Own Choice of music.
iii. The use of a microphone and/or pre-recorded electronic backing or accompaniment is NOT permitted unless specifically stated in the rules for that section.
iv. If backing tracks are allowed in contemporary sections, they must contain Instrumental backing only.  The equipment provided uses an earphone jack – NO CD or other medium can be used.
v. Where backing track or microphone is permitted, competitors must use the uni-directional microphone and sound equipment supplied by the Eisteddfod.

d. Judged as a vocal and theatrical presentation.

AUSTRALIAN COMPOSER SOLO
a.
Excluding Contemporary Popular Song or Folk Song.

CONTEMPORARY COMMERCIAL VOCAL SOLO
a.
Contemporary popular song only. No jazz or music theatre songs allowed.
b. Must use microphone.
c. May be accompanied by single acoustic or electric instrument, or backing track. The equipment provided uses an earphone jack – NO CD or other medium can be used.
d. Song to be chosen from appropriate AMEB or similar Contemporary Popular Music Syllabi, ABC “Sing” books, Hal Leonard Choraltime books or songs of similar suitability for Primary age group.

CONTEMPORARY COMMERCIAL BALLAD SOLO
a.
Contemporary popular song only. No jazz or music theatre songs allowed.
b. Must use microphone.
